Sailfish Fishing

Well known in fishing circles as the next great hotspot for game fishing. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are remote, isolated and as a result almost untouched. A local game fishing operation fishes in a small area near the main town and catches extraordinary size fish. Other visiting game boats from Thailand capture large numbers of blue and black marlin over 900 lb during a very short amount of time. The potential is incredible!

The cobalt currents off the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India, teem with blue and black marlin, dogtooth tuna, yellowfin tuna, sailfish, giant trevally (GT), broadbill swordfish, wahoo, dolphinfish and all manner of hard fighting and great eating bottom fish! The blue and black marlin are here in big numbers, as well as size. Up to 12 strikes a day on marlin that can be over 900lb, puts the Andaman Islands in the top echelon of billfish destinations in the world. The prolific numbers of dogtooth tuna and giant trevally (GTs) at the Andaman Islands are well known across the world, as they can be huge!

ITINERARY 5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS

The Ultimate Getaway

DAY 01

Port Blair - Barren Island

Pick up from hotel 06.00 hrs  tranfer to the yacht for short safety and weather briefing. Leave port and start trolling for Marlin, which can be caught straight away. Wahoo, Sailfish and Tuna are also a regular catch.

We head to our first destination, normally Barren Island, 72 miles distance, fishing all the way. We can’t always predict what we will catch on route but some of the biggest Marlin get caught heading between Port Blair and Barren. A productive seamount is fished on the way.

Arrive Barren approx. 16.00 fish around the Island for Dogtooth Tuna, Wahoo, GT, Barracuda etc.

Before sundown locate bottom fishing area for the night where many species can be caught, often some big unstoppable fish takes the jig or bait. Following a great meal and active fishing, normally most guests get tired before 22.00 and retire to their cabin for the night.

DAY 02

Narcondam

After a hearty breakfast and another troll around the island we set off to Narcondam Island another 72 miles distance, fishing all the way. Again no telling what fish we will catch, but it is very deep water and anything can, and often does, happen!

Approx 16.00 arrive at Narcondam, do some trolling around the island and then find our spot for the night. Again a great meal is served, then we bottom fish and jig for the wide variety of fish that are found here.

DAY 03

Seamount

After another hearty breakfast, we troll out to the seamount, not far from the Island and proceed to work the mount for Marlin which hang around the edges feeding on the many tunas that are there. We mostly fish lures but also teasers and natural baits. Marlin are regularly caught here in big numbers, with a mix of Blue and Black Marlin showing up. This is one of the best - but least known - locations in the world for Marlin fishing! Both Blue and Black marlin are up to 1,000 pounds in size, and are in large numbers.

Wahoo can be in plague proportions here, often destroying our bait and lures, but providing great fun for our clients. Sometimes if clients choose we can have a stop for some jigging or electric reel deep dropping at the seamount. Broadbill Swordfish are also a potential target. Evening and it is back to the Island to find our mark for the night, unless the group chooses to spend the night at the seamount, trying their luck for some of the monster fish that reside here.

DAY 04

Narcondam

Much the same as Day 3 unless fishing was slow or we choose to fish another seamount to the west of the Island. The GT and dogtooth fishing around Narcondam is first class and can be a focus if desired. After lunch troll all the way back to Barren Island, arriving in the evening for some trolling around the island and bottom fishing for the night.

DAY 05

Port Blair

Troll around the Island before heading back to Port Blair where we will arrive at approximately 17.00, disembark and be taken to your hotel. Flights don’t leave until the next day, so it’s time to relax and talk about your amazing Andaman trip over a meal!

For extended charters, guests can stay at Narcondam for 1-2 days longer.

* Due to safety, dive may be cancelled and location may be changed depend on sea conditions.

ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS

With 500 untouched tropical islands, pristine reef systems, volcanic islands and seamounts coming out of thousands of metres of water, this location is truly the very best in Asia and absolutely world class!

It's lovely opaque emerald waters are surrounded by primeval jungle and mangrove forest, and snow-white beaches that melt under flame-and-purple sunsets. The population is a friendly masala of South and Southeast Asian settlers, as well as Negrito ethnic groups whose arrival here still has anthropologists baffled. Adding to the intrigue is its remote location, some 1370 km from the mainland, meaning the islands are geographically more Southeast Asia – 150 km from Indonesia and 190 km from Myanmar.

HOW TO GET THERE

Flights for Andaman

Indian’s have no permit restrictions for Andaman. The quickest way to reach Andaman is by flight. There are direct flights to Andaman from Kolkata, Bangaluru and Chennai approximating 2.5 hours travel time. Connecting flights to these destinations are available from most other cities. Flights from Delhi fly via Chennai or Kolkata and take around 5 hours.

As per current schedules, there are several flights going from Chennai to Port Blair every day. Flights from Chennai are available from 5am to 12pm. If you land in between, you’ll have a few hours to spend at the Chennai airport so grab along a movie on your mobile or a good read on your kindle.
